Little Habits I Picked Up From Living With a Shih Tzu

Living with a dog for many years changes your everyday life in ways you don’t always notice at first.

Some changes are big, but most of them are actually very small.

After spending so many years with Yeoreum, my Shih Tzu, I’ve noticed that I’ve picked up quite a few little habits without even realizing it.

It’s autumn here! Perfect weather for a walk with Yeoreum. 🍁🐾

I used to check the weather mainly when I was going somewhere.

Now, I check it with Yeoreum in mind.

Is it too hot for a walk?
Will it rain later?
Is the morning cool enough to go outside?

His comfort has somehow become part of my daily weather forecast. ☁️

Living with a small dog has made me much more aware of what’s on the floor.

A tiny piece of food, something he could pick up, or even a small object that shouldn’t be there — I notice these things much faster now.

It’s almost like having a little safety scanner built into my brain.

You eat, I eat too.

If I’m eating something, I know exactly who is watching me.

Those little eyes.

And somehow, the closer I get to the last bite, the closer Yeoreum gets to me. 😂

I’ve learned that eating quietly is not really an option when you live with a Shih Tzu.

A little movement.

The sound of his paws.

The way he moves around the room.

Even the sound of him getting up from his bed.

After living together for years, you start recognizing those little sounds without thinking about them.

Sometimes I know what he’s doing before I even see him.

One of his favorite napping spot. 🐾💤

This one became a habit without me noticing.

Before I go to sleep, I naturally check where Yeoreum is.

Is he comfortable?

Is he sleeping?

Does he have his favorite toy nearby?

It’s such a small thing, but after so many years together, it feels completely natural.

Time to play, hooman🐶

I don’t think I consciously decided to change my routine because of my dog.

It just happened.

My day includes his meals, his walks, his medication, his rest, and all those tiny moments in between.

And honestly, I don’t really think of them as responsibilities anymore.

They’re simply part of our life together.

Maybe that’s one of the quietest things about living with a dog for many years.

You don’t always notice how much they’ve changed your life.

Until one day, you realize that your everyday habits have their little paw prints all over them. 🤎🐾
